Nine Years of Cheers!

Today, DPPS celebrates nine years of service for James Gonzales in our digital printing area. James helps coordinate the workload, preps files and generates proofs, and sometimes runs the printers in our production area. Nine cheers for nine years!

Historic Art Installation

We have a lot of art on the walls at DPPS, much of which is photos employees took. However, there is a new art installation that dates back before any of us were born; images from the 1940s of the Memorial Union Terrace and Red Gym. They show a simpler time on the UW campus, …

Congrats to Karen!

Karen Koethe was selected as the winner of our May Giveaway! She will receive a custom-manufactured set of coasters with a variety of badger themes, produced on our EFI hybrid printer and cut out using our Colex CNC cutting equipment. They are displayed in a 3D-printed coaster holder to complete the look.  Want to get …

Still Time to Apply!

DPPS is hiring! After a long career in print, one of our customer-facing reps is retiring from the UW. We are looking for a customer service person to take on the most detailed, complex projects we work on, including outsourcing to other vendors. If you know someone, pass this along! UW Madison’s Digital Publishing and …

May Anniversaries at DPPS

Today, we recognize Ted Brandt, Printing Project Coordinator, on his second anniversary at DPPS! May also has other milestones for staff: Tom Gross celebrated two years earlier in the month, and Ken Parman will be reaching his nine-year mark on May 26. Congrats to all, and here’s to many more years at UW-Madison’s best place …

590 and counting!

The other day, I asked each of our staff members how long they’ve been working in print environments. We had data from OHR showing that staff in permanent positions at UW-Madison totaled 268.3 years for our current team; since then, I was able to add all of the additional years each person has worked in other …

Mother’s Day is THIS Sunday, May 10th (not May 17th)

Hey gang, For those of you who received one of the DPPS Photo Calendars this year, we have some news for you: Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10th (not the 17th as we mistakenly printed in our 600 calendars!) Director Rich Gassen takes full responsibility for this error (actually, the automated software he uses to …

Tour of Suttle Straus Printing

A group from DPPS was able to tour one of our outside vendors last week — Customer Service Manager Jenny Turk and Print Production Manager Andrew Broan took members from their teams to see the equipment and capabilities at Suttle Straus Printing in Waunakee. Suttle Straus is one of several state contract vendors we send work …

Friday Find – Security Envelope Art

We enter May with an interesting craft from Paul Lukas — a close look at security envelope patterns. These classically inconspicuous designs, which are hiding in plain sight, have inspired collectors, artists, and at least one architect. See his article on the topic and the subsequent art that comes from an attention to this naturally …

How Sweet is This?

One of our wonderful customers stopped by today with a large box of goodies for our team, in appreciation for being “lifesavers” time and time again for her department. (Note: It was much fuller than this before being raided by our production team.) Very sweet of you, Catherine!
